Musculoskeletal Problems of the Head and Neck

Treatment of musculoskeletal problems of the head, neck and jaw involves evaluation of the overall muscle balance, posture, and joint function of the area. Treatment usually involves an individualized stretching and/or stabilization program to do at home, as well as hands-on treatment to the problem area. This usually includes trigger point work, massage, joint mobilization, manual traction and assisted stretching. By eliminating trigger points or sore spots in the muscles about the head and neck, and by restoring normal joint motion and control, many pain syndromes about the head, neck and jaw can be controlled or eliminated. Treatable diagnoses include but are not limited to muscle tension headache, myofascial syndrome, and temporo-mandibular dysfunction.
